Standard

This week I ask: In addition to writing, what else are you passionate about?

Click on the authors name to be taken to their website.

Marc Todd

A: I answer this question in my author description. When I’m not portaging, enjoying the starry night skies under my small one-person tent, or reading, or watching endless TV series and movies, or working at my government job, or spending time with my beautiful wife Sandra, or our two daughters, Julianna and Kristina, or napping with my cats, Lily and Misa, or making craft beer in my garage, or playing cards with friends and neighbours, or listening to psychobilly heavy metal punk music, or playing first-person shooter video games, or hosting trivia nights, I have been known to write stories and poems, in an attempt to capture the musings of my mind.

Bio: Marc Todd is the writer and author of the thrilling horror novel ‘Chains’ (released in March 2021). He was raised and still resides in the Niagara Region, in southern Ontario Canada. Twice a year, in early spring and fall, he and a varied collection of friends enjoy portaging the northern Canadian woods of Algonquin, Killarney, Temagami, and the French River.

Thomas F Montelone

A: I am passionate about my family. Son, daughter, grandkids, and wife are simply everything to me. (. . . And bourbon isn’t so bad either. )

Bio: Thomas F Monteleone has been a professional writer since 1972, and 4-time winner of the Bram Stoker Award. He has published more than 100 short stories in numerous magazines and anthologies. His stories have been nominated for many awards and have appeared in many best-of-the-year compilations.

A.M. Harte

A:  Reading. Chocolate. Yorkshire puddings. Roast potatoes. Food in general, actually. Mmmm, food…

I love languages. As a child, I was shunted around Europe a lot, so I speak four, in varying degrees of fluency. I’d like to pick up a fifth at some point…

A.M. Harte writes twisted speculative fiction, such as the zombie love anthology Hungry For You. She is excellent at missing deadlines, has long forgotten what ‘free time’ means, and is utterly addicted to chocolate.

William F Nolan

A:  I love cartooning and sports car racing, and the work of Max Brand.

Bio: William writes stories in the science fiction, fantasy and horror genres. He is best known for coauthoring the novel Logan’s Run, with George Clayton Johnson. He co-wrote the screenplay for the 1976 horror film Burnt Offerings which starred Karen Black and Bette Davis.

Among his many awards, he was voted a Living Legend in Dark Fantasy by the International Horror Guild in 2002. During 2006, he was bestowed the honorary title of Author Emeritus by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Inc. In 2010, he received the Lifetime Achievement award from the Horror Writers Association.

Pete Mesling

A: Music, especially writing acoustic guitar music. It’s been one of the sacrifices I’ve had to make in order to bring fiction writing front and center, but I hope to be able to return to making music in a more serious way again. Music is really the other side of the coin for me, on par with fiction. And I’m talking about reading/listening as much as writing/composing.

Bio: Pete Mesling has published poetry and fiction widely, including two highly regarded horror collections, a book of poetry, and a novel of intrigue and suspense. Other publishing highlights include All-American Horror of the 21st Century, the First Decade: 2000 – 2010 (Independent Legions Publishing); Survive the Night: Three at Dusk, Two at Dawn (forthcoming from Dark Regions Press); Shallow Waters, Vol. 3 (Crystal Lake Publishing); and two of the Poetry Showcase anthologies put out by the Horror Writers Association. Mesling is the official Clive Barker proofreader for Gauntlet Press.
